As a culminating activity for Black history month, we have invited HOZA to come to our school on Monday, March 2nd, for a Heart Wisdom performance. Hoza is an African word that we take to mean STOP, START or CHANGE! HOZA! provides schools with experiences that help participants to better love themselves, others, and our environment. Their programs rely on Creative Mediation and introduce life-skills that can put a STOP to our negative thinking and behaviours, and help us to START living the CHANGEs that we envision for ourselves and our world…HOZA!
In the highly participatory and energetic style for which HOZA! is known; students drum, dance and sing while exploring the meaning of Heart Wisdom. Students discover that there are many gifts and lessons within the hearts of indigenous and marginalized communities that: call us together, teach us how to listen and speak to one another, teach us how to treat each other and our planet – for the betterment of all people and all generations.
